Chief Police Psychologist, Dr. Debra F. Glaser has been with the Behavioral Science Services (BSS) unit of the LAPD since 1980. She started with BSS as a doctoral student and has worked as a post-doctoral fellow, consultant and staff psychologist. She was appointed to the position of Chief Police Psychologist in 1997, supervising BSS and the Department’s Employee Assistance Unit (EAU). Dr. Glaser has a masters degree in social psychology from New York University and a masters and doctorate in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology.
During her tenure with LAPD she has consulted with a variety of specialized units including Juvenile Division, Scientific Investigation Division, Metropolitan Division’s Special Weapons and Tactics, the Threat Management Unit, Robbery-Homicide and many others. Dr. Glaser was one of the creators of the psychological portion of the pre-academy training program designed to assist female candidates’ successful completion of academy training. Dr. Glaser is skilled in the area of investigative hypnosis, assisting detectives in a variety of cases. She has taught classes in stress management, smoking cessation, critical incident stress debriefing, workplace violence, suicide prevention, communication skills, and interpersonal skills. Dr. Glaser has provided counseling to Department employees, both sworn and civilian and their significant others.
In her current position Dr. Glaser oversees a staff of up to 21 psychologists working both in the BSS offices, and out in the field as part of the Department’s Balanced Health and Wellness Program.
Dr. Glaser is member of the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology, the American Psychological Association, the California Psychological Association and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. |
